According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Marco Silvestri is ‘being considered by Everton’ to potentially compete with Jordan Pickford for a starting place next season.
The 29-year-old has been a regular at Hellas Verona since his move from Leeds United in 2017 but could be coming back to England. TuttoMercatoWeb say Southampton and Norwich City are also interested in Silvestri, so Everton may have some competition for his signature.
Silvestri has made 71 appearances in all competitions for Hellas Verona, conceding 89 goals and making 17 clean sheets. This season, he’s made 25 Serie A appearances, conceding 26 goals and making nine clean sheets. As per WhoScored, the 29-year-old has made 81 saves, 20 clearances, won five free-kicks, won 10 aerial duels and completed 40.4% of his 663 passes.
At Leeds, Silvestri made 98 appearances, conceding 123 goals and keeping 23 clean sheets. He experienced English football for three years but played in the second-tier, so it remains to be seen if Everton really consider him as a potential replacement for Pickford.
Southampton and Norwich’s interest may be vindication that he’s improved as a player, however. TuttoMercatoWeb say Silvestri’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed by Roberto Mancini, so a callup to the Italian national team may soon follow too.
In addition to Pickford, Carlo Ancelotti also has Jonas Lossl, Maarten Stekelenburg and Joao Virginia at his disposal, so the Toffees aren’t short of goalkeepers. The Blues have a more fervent need to strengthen at centre-back, central midfield and in attack, amid links with Issa Diop, Ozan Tufan and Jonathan David respectively.
Time will tell if they pursue Silvestri.
