Opinion: Everton won’t sign 20-year-old PSV Eindhoven man in January, here’s why

|

Everton were linked with a move for Donyell Malen earlier in the season, but it’s unlikely they will add to their attack until an existing player leaves. It may take a bid in excess of £25.7m to procure his signature, but whether PSV Eindhoven would sell him mid-season remains to be seen.

The 20-year-old is highly-rated in the Netherlands and has been outstanding since joining from Arsenal in 2017. Malen has scored & created 39 goals in 66 games for PSV and still has five years remaining on his contract.

This season, the Dutch international has contributed 23 goals in 20 games and could be on the radar for a number of top European clubs. And while Malen would improve the Everton squad, it’s hard to see him joining while Moise Kean is there.

Should Everton sell Kean in January?

Yes, if it's for the £27.5m we paid

Yes, just get rid

No, he has to stay

Marcel Brands wants to build a young side for the future, but he won’t want two highly-rated centre-forwards competing for one spot. Kean has only just joined Everton, while Marco Silva also has Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun in attack, so it would be a strange move bringing in even more competition.
