Opinion: Everton should sign 25-year-old Tottenham man in January

|

With Tottenham potentially selling Eric Dier in January, Everton should look to capitalise. Mauricio Pochettino will reportedly make the 25-year-old available to suitors as he’s looking to rebuild the squad after their poor start to the season, so it might be worth Marcel Brands lodging a bid as Dier would be a brilliant addition to the Everton squad.

The England international has made 213 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham, scoring and creating 20 goals. Dier’s racked up 102 minutes of Premier League football this season, however, after falling down the pecking order. He’s been deemed surplus to requirements by Pochettino and finds himself on a list containing four other unwanted Spurs players.

Everton shouldn’t turn their nose up at Dier. He’s an improvement on the out-of-form Morgan Schneiderlin, is arguably on par with Fabian Delph, and is able to play in defence too. The 25-year-old can operate at right-back, centre-back, defensive-midfield and central midfield, so he’d be very useful in the squad.

Whether the Toffees would be successful remains to be seen, however. Dier could have a lot of interest from clubs in the top-flight and overseas, so time will tell if he’d consider a move to an Everton side currently in the relegation zone.
