Despite being out of first-team football for almost a month, Andre Gomes has still managed to find his way into the latest Portugal squad.

As announced on Everton’s official website, Gomes has been called up to the Portugal national team for the upcoming international break following an injury to Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho, forcing Fernando Santos to bring the Toffees’ midfielder into the squad.
With the Everton playmaker only just returning from a rib injury that saw Gomes make a cameo appearance against Burnley last weekend, plenty of supporters on social media were worried that the Portuguese midfielder will return to the sidelines on international duty with the reigning European champions.
Here’s what some Everton fans had to say on Twitter about Gomes receiving a late call-up to the Portugal side…
How’s he managed this

Just be very careful. We want no injury worries on top of everything else.

Gomes played just once for the month of September during a 3-2 win over Wolves in the Premier League, Everton’s last win in the English top-flight to date and a game that saw the former Barcelona man sit out on the sidelines for almost 30 days.
