Opinion: Everton could miss out on £40m if transfer falls through, Marco Silva won’t mind

|

Idrissa Gueye has been linked with a move away from Everton this summer, with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly keen on his signature. The 29-year-old has recently been tipped to join United in a £40m deal, but the proposed transfer could fall through and Marco Silva won’t mind.

Gueye has made it clear that he wants to leave Everton for a side in the Champions League, but United won’t be in the competition next season and may not spend £40m on the 29-year-old due to a lack of resale value – Gueye will turn 30 in September and may have reached his peak.

PSG were once in the race for the Senegalese international, but they look set to sign Ander Herrera so they don’t have a need for Gueye. There doesn’t appear to be any other club Everton have to worry about, so they should be somewhat confident of keeping the midfielder.

Gueye has made 33 Premier League appearances this season, racking up 2825 minutes of football, making two assists, 44 clearances, 53 passes-per-game with 84% accuracy, blocked 56 shots/passes/crosses, created 18 chances, won 32 aerial duels (48%), made 23 successful dribbles (74%) and averaged a tackle (142) or interception (74) every 13 minutes.
