Opinion: Attacking-midfielder could leave Everton

|

Kieran Dowell could be on his way out of Everton this summer with the attacking-midfielder having fallen down the pecking order. Dowell rose through the youth ranks to the Everton first-team in 2017 but has made just five appearances in all competitions.

The 21-year-old’s last outing for Everton came against Southampton on October 2, 2018 but his last Premier League appearance was all the way back in 2016. Dowell’s contract has two years to run, but he doesn’t appear to have a future at Goodison Park given the lack of playing time in recent years.

He spent the second-half of 2018/19 on loan at Sheffield United, contributing three goals in 17 games, and could turn the move permanent according to the Daily Mail. The Blades are keen to re-sign Dowell and should fancy their chances as they’ll be a Premier League side next season.

With Gylfi Sigurdsson ahead of Dowell in the pecking order, chances were always going to be slim for the England u21 international. He could be a regular in the top-flight if he re-joins Sheffield United this summer, but it will be a big call leaving Everton for good.

The midfielder has spent around 14 years at the club, so it would be with a heavy heart if he called time on his stay at Goodison.
