Official: Everton confirm 27-year-old has ‘ligament injury’ and will see ‘club consultant’

|

Everton have confirmed that Bernard suffered a ‘ligament injury’ against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday and could be out of action for some time. He was substituted after half an hour and may not return until December.

The 27-year-old has a grade two medial ligament tear in his right knee and will see the ‘club’s knee consultant’ in the week to decide on the best course of action.

It could take Bernard around four weeks to recover, meaning he could miss up to four of Everton’s upcoming games – Watford (October 29), Tottenham (November 3), Southampton (November 9), Norwich City (November 23).

The Brazilian international has made nine appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating two goals. Bernard’s last outing for Everton saw him replaced by Gylfi Sigurdsson and the Toffees ended up losing 3-2.

Marco Silva’s men aren’t having the best start to the season either. After 10 games, Everton have picked up 10 points and have lost five of their last six.

As for Bernard, this latest setback sums up his season so far. The 27-year-old has been inconsistent and isn’t guaranteed a starting place under Silva as a result. He’ll hope to return stronger than ever to get his campaign back on track.
