According to Sportske, Mohamed Besic could be on his way out of Everton this summer amid interest from Rangers. The 28-year-old has been on the periphery at Goodison Park since 2018 and is in the last year of his deal.

Besic could leave on a free transfer in 2021 if he’s not offloaded sooner, so we could push for a move before the window shuts. In addition to Rangers, Besic had interest from England, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Germany, so he could have his pick of clubs.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

What went wrong for Besic?

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international joined Everton from Ferencvaros in 2014 and has gone on to make 56 appearances in all competitions. Besic’s last outing came in our Europa League win over Apollon Limassol (December 7, 2017).

He’s since fallen down the pecking order, however, and was loaned out to Middlesbrough (January 31, 2018 – May 31, 2018) (August 23, 2018 – May 31, 2019) and Sheffield United (August 8, 2019 – May 31, 2020) to get first-team football.

This season, Allan, Andre Gomes, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Tom Davies, Fabian Delph and Gylfi Sigurdsson are all ahead of Besic in midfield, so it’s hard to see him getting a reprieve.

We spent £4.3m for Besic and have paid him £1.56m-a-year/£30k-a-week in wages since 2014, so it would be nice to make back some of that £13.7m. We have until October 5 to do it.

What did his agent say?

Besic’s representative believes a loan move away is on the cards, saying: “He has more than 100 appearances in English football – half of it in the (Premier League) where he proved how he can fight the best midfielders in the league. A loan at a low price would be an ideal offer to renew his career.”

If Everton want to make back their money, they’ll need to push for a permanent deal. Besic’s market value with Transfermarkt is £2.16m and his valuation with CIES Football Observatory is €2m-€4m, so he’s not going to fetch a lot of money.

Besic impressed on loan at Middlesbrough, but he struggled for appearances at Sheff Utd. As a result, he he might need to drop down a level to get regular football.
