Leighton Baines’ blues tastes victory in U18 Derby

|

Everton u18s earned their 3rd win over the season today in a 2-1 victory over rivals Liverpool at Finch Farm, with two EFC forwards shining.

Liverpool have had the upper hand in recent under-18 Merseyside derbies, winning all of the last 4 meetings between the two sides, scoring 13 goals in that time and only conceding 2.

The reds would also go into the game as favourites, sitting in 3rd in the table after 8 games, winning an impressive 5 and only losing 3. Everton, on the other hand, have had quite a poor start to the season, losing 5 of their opening 8 games and only managing 2 wins.

Although the results have been poor, the blues have put in quite a few good performances despite not getting the best results.

Leighton Baines’ side would also be weakened due to a few of their players joining up with the U21’s side for their PL Cup game against Birmingham City yesterday, with the likes of Matthew Apter and Coby Ebere starting the game on Friday afternoon.

Despite having the weaker side, the toffees would start the brightest, with Martin Sherif slotting home just past the hour mark after some good build-up play. Liverpool would have a few good chances to draw level but Everton’s defence would hold out.

Then, in the 86th minute, Coby Ebere, playing his second game in 2 days, would double the blues’ lead securing the 3 points in the Derby.

kyle Kelly would score a late consolation for the visitors but it would not be enough to rescue the game, leaving Everton with a very important 3 points going into the December fixtures.
