Latest report reveals why Everton may have to pay £60.5m to sign 17-year-old

|

Everton were interested in Reinier over the summer and lodged a bid of around £26m for the 17-year-old, but Jorge Nicola of Yahoo Esportes says his asking price could be set to rise to £60.5m – Reinier is expected to sign a new five-year deal at Flamengo with the lofty release clause attached. It will be a blow for Everton and may force them to turn their attentions elsewhere.

Reinier is an attacking-midfielder who has scored and created five goals in eight games for Flamengo. The 17-year-old is highly-rated and has attracted interest from clubs in Europe as a result. He doesn’t appear keen to make the switch, however, and instead will commit his future to the Brazilian outfit.

Reinier joined up with Flamengo’s first-team squad in July and has made the matchday squad in 15 of the 16 games that followed, featuring six times. He’s been a regular in recent weeks, racking up 267 minutes of football in October while contributing three goals.

The Brazilian u17 international won’t turn 18 until January 2020, so it’s no surprise he’s valued so highly. His hiked release clause now means Everton could now miss out on his signature, however.
