Everton were showing an interest in Reinier over the summer but failed to bring him to Goodison Park due to his lofty asking price –  the 17-year-old is highly-rated at Flamengo and has a release clause of £61.8m. Jorge Nicola of Yahoo (h/t Sport Witness) says the Toffees failed to offer more than £26.5m and had their bid rejected as a result.

Reinier’s deal at Flamengo expires in December 2020 and the Brazilian club are reportedly looking to tie him down to a new contract when he returns from the U17 World Cup (October 26 – November 17). Everton don’t stand a chance of landing the talented forward’s signature unless they more than double their first bid.

The Toffees arguably have more pressing concerns in the squad too. Marco Silva’s men are in bad form of late, having lost three of their last four Premier League games, and are struggling for goals. Marcel Brands wants to build a younger squad, but Everton also need tried and tested players to get them out of their current predicament.

It’s worth noting that Reineir has started the 2019 season strongly with two goals/assists in two appearances, but it’s debatable if he’s a must-sign for Everton.
