36-time Italian league winners Juventus are reportedly planning to ‘ask for a discount’ on their £28m obligatory fee for Everton striker, Moise Kean which is due to be paid in the summer.

Kean joined Juventus in 2021 on a 2-year loan deal with a £7 million loan fee, with an obligation to buy after the period of £28 million.

Everton first signed Kean in 2019 from Juventus, with a lot of hype surrounding the deal. However, he struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, only scoring 4 goals in his first and only season for the toffees.

The Italian did hit some of the best form of his life the season after, scoring 17 goals on loan at French champions, PSG, including some crucial goals in the Champions League, even scoring against Barcelona in his side’s win at the Camp Nou.

After this season, Juventus beat PSG to Kean’s signature, seeing him as an important part of the squad for the coming season and an important player for the future, according to Sporting Director, Pavel Nedved.

In his 60 appearances since his return, he has only scored 8 goals and only 2 of which have come this season.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Juventus do not feel that not all the conditions have been met for the obligatory clause to be activated. Reports over the summer suggested that Juventus wanted to activate their purchase option early if any offers came in for the striker so that they could cut their losses, but no such offer came in.

Although Juventus may have a valid explanation for not having to pay the full fee, there is no evidence of that so far, so at the moment, this suggestion seems a bit of a stretch. However, negotiations are likely to continue over the January transfer window and probably beyond.
