Everton duo Jordan Pickford and Conor Coady have both been called up to represent England in the Qatar 2022 World Cup that starts this month.

Jordan Pickford who has been England’s number 1 for the last two major tournaments (2018 World Cup & Euro 2020) was expected by most football fans to be named in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad, as was Conor Coady but after the pair alongside James Tarkowski have the fourth best defensive record in the league so far this season, the question was.

Will James Tarkowski make his way into the squad?

He didn’t, but somehow Harry Maguire who doesn’t even start for Manchester United did, but we all know what Southgate is. (A fraud)

Speaking on TalkSport this morning Conor Coady explained the process when finding out how he got into the squad.

“We train at 11 am so when I came in, I had a text message on my phone from one of the girls at the FA who looks after the team saying that I’d been selected, I messaged her back saying it was the best message I’d ever received!”

Coady was then quick to reiterate that as much as he’s excited to be going to Qatar with the England squad, Everton has an important game first on Saturday, which is his priority.

“I play for Everton Football Club and I give the best of myself every single day for the football club and the most important thing for me, and every other player in the England squad will say the same thing, that the most important thing at the moment are the games this weekend.”

What do you make of Gareth Southgate’s England selection?

Do you believe Tarkowski deserved a call-up?
