Everton fans largely continue to harbour high hopes for the Premier League season of 2018/19 under manager Marco Silva but I’d imagine many will consider a proper attack on the top six league places is probably a hope too far for this season at least.

That doesn’t stop it from being a topic of conversation amongst the fan base though and nor in the media as Everton’s overall aspirations under Farhad Moshiri are pretty clear and our summer spending and the targets we identified to bolster the squad, simply show what our end game is.

Pundit and former League winner Chris Sutton believes a top six place is beyond our reach this season, even if he accepts there are a number of positives signs at Goodison Park.

“I don’t think Everton will get into the top four. But it has been pretty encouraging under Marco Silva, trying to play a different brand of football.”

Key to our chances, for the former Blackburn Rovers man, is how quickly we can get Colombian international Yerry Mini back on the pitch and firing on all defensive cylinders as whilst speaking to the BBC’s Radio 5 Show – 606 (Oct 21, 6pm) he went on to add.

“They’ve got Yerry Mina to come back. He’s going to be big for Everton when he comes back.”

Silva needs to consolidate this year, get the players singing from the same hymnsheet tactically and go for a solid top ten finish, then 2019/20 with more tweaking to our squad depth we can have a real attempt at returning to European football.
