Wolves at home was a game Everton wanted to win, but except for Andres Gomes’ first goal for Everton, there was little to cheer about after a 3-1 loss to Wolves at Goodison Park. Things don’t get any easier as Manchester City visits Goodison on Wednesday. After a few blips, City seems back at their swashbuckling, close-passing, chance-creating and goal-grabbing best, which doesn’t bode well for the Blues.

It didn’t take Jamie Carragher long to jump in with both feet. Telling Twitter that Manchester City will beat Everton and grab a share of first place in the Premier League on 62 points. City has a far superior goal difference. And with the way Everton have been defending, Guardiola’s goal-hungry gang must have an all-you-can-score buffet in their evening plans. Everton have only won one of their last seven home games and have given up 13 goals.

Despite facing pressure from as far and wide as Sam Allardyce. Silva did get some reassuring news from Everton Majority Shareholder Farhad Moshiri. Moshiri told Sky Sports that Silva is a young and talented coach and Everton need to stick with him for the long term.

According to the Liverpool Echo: Silva was not surprised by Moshiri’s backing and indicated the two had discussions about working younger players into the side and not making moves in the January Transfer Window. Last January, Allardyce bought in Theo Walcott and Cenk Tosun for £47 million. The pair have scored seven goals between this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who cost £1.5 million as a 19-year-old has six by himself.

Despite Everton’s poor form, Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola is cautious, telling the BBC, “Goodison Park is always a tough game for us.” And while it’s very unlikely Everton will repeat the 4-0 victory that happened the first time Guardiola took City to Goodison Park, the game will be a lot closer than many think.
