Loads of Everton fans have been reacting on social media after journalist Diego Peralta claimed the club are planning to hold a pre-season friendly with Everton de Vina del Mar this summer.
Representatives of the club are believed to have travelled to the Sausalito Stadium earlier this week to hold talks with the Chilean Primera Division side, with a view to visiting their ground this July in the build-up to the 2020/21 season.
Peralta understands that it is ‘practically agreed’ that the match will take place, in what would be the second time we have faced our Chilean namesake.
Everton de Vina del Mar visited Goodison Park in August 2010 for a pre-season friendly dubbed as the Brotherhood Cup, which saw Jermaine Beckford and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov score the only goals of the match.
Our Chilean namesake were followed by around 40 supporters and were formed in 1909 by a group of Anglo-Chilean teenagers in honour of the Toffees.
Would you like to see Everton visit Everton de Vina del Mar?
Yes
No
Former Everton de Vina del Mar goalkeeper Gustavo Dalsasso led the club’s representatives around the Sausalito Stadium for a tour of the facilities during their visit to Chile, ahead of our potential Brotherhood Cup title defence.
