Explained: Everton may have to pay £40m and £2m wages to sign England international

|

According to The Sun, Everton are keen on signing Callum Wilson but may have to fend off interest from Chelsea, Leicester City and West Ham United for the Bournemouth striker. Wilson has contributed 17 goals in 24 Premier League this season and has made his England debut on account of his fine domestic form.

The 27-year-old won’t come cheap, however, with The Sun revealing that his asking price is around £40m. According to Spotrac, Wilson currently earns £2m-a-year/£40k-per-week at Bournemouth. The Cherries are desperate to keep the striker at Dean Court, but a move could be on the cards for the right price.

Bournemouth haven’t had a bad season, with Eddie Howe’s men sitting 12th in the Premier League table with six games remaining, but there’s a ceiling with the South Coast club. If Wilson has the opportunity to join the likes of Chelsea or Everton, he may find it difficult to turn them down.

Everton could be a smarter move than the Londoners, however, as they’ll have Gonzalo Higuain for another season which could see Wilson sidelined. At Goodison Park, however, Marco Silva is desperate for a new centre-forward and would surely make Wilson a regular if he joined this summer.
