Explained: Everton may have to pay £25m and £2.6m in wages to sign West Ham man

With Leighton Baines potentially on his way out of Everton this summer, the Toffees could sign a replacement at left-back. Baines is out of contract in the coming weeks and may not be handed an extension after falling down the pecking order. If he leaves, Football Insider believe Everton will sign Aaron Cresswell as his successor.

The 29-year-old made 22 appearances in all competitions in 2018/19, racking up 1589 minutes of Premier League football. Cresswell made one assist, 17 chances, 42 clearances, won 25 aerial duels (58%), whipped in 75 crosses with 21% accuracy, blocked 44 shots/passes/crosses, averaged 41 passes-per-game with 81% accuracy and averaged a tackle (29) or interception (23) every 31 minutes.

Football Insider state that Cresswell would provide backup to Lucas Digne next season, but he may not come cheap. The England international was rated at £25m in 2018 and earns £2.6m-a-year/£50k-per-week at the London Stadium. Cresswell might not be available for a transfer as West Ham would be leaving themselves short at left-back if he was sold.

The 29-year-old’s departure would leave Manuel Pellegrini with only Arthur Masuaku to choose from next season, so United might not want to sell him.
