Brands ‘willing’ to sanction seven figure Everton signing despite underwhelming season – report

Director of Football Marcel Brands is ‘willing’ to offer €7million (£6.1m) for Girona defender Juanpe Ramirez, according to AS.

The Madrid, Spain-based publication understand Everton have been closely keeping tabs on the 28-year-old this season, along with Watford, and that the most interested side in making a move is a Premier League outfit.

Girona’s management have not yet received any offers for the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria-born centre-back, though, but they are waiting for one, as the 6 ft 2 defender’s name is on an extensive list of players they are likely going to sell this summer following their relegation into the Segunda Division.

AS understand the dossier our scouts have kept on Juanpe are positive, despite the Las Palmas product enjoying a less profitable campaign at the Estadi Montilivi this term under boss Eusebio Sacristan than he put together a year ago.

His stats tell a different story, though, as WhoScored note he recorded more tackles, interceptions, and clearances per game this season than in his maiden first-tier campaign, while reducing the amount of fouls he gave away.

Juanpe is currently on a £14,571-a-week contract, which runs until the summer of 2022, but does not want to drop back down to the Spanish second-flight having played a part in Girona’s promotion to La Liga under Pablo Machin in 2017.

He had turned down potential moves out of Catalonia last summer, too, as he felt the Blanquivermells was the ideal place to continue growing as a player at the time.
