Everton’s global club ranking REVEALED

|

FiveThirtyTwo have released their ‘Global Club Soccer Rankings’ , with Everton’s ranking being ‘questionable’ at best.

According to their website, the ratings given to each team are based on an estimate of the team’s overall strength.
This is calculated using two different scores. One of which being the number of goals the team is expected to score, and the other on the expected number of goals the team is expected to concede.
An overall ‘SPI’ rating is then calculated and compared to every other team in the ranking, giving the team a specific rank in the list of 643 teams.

The toffees are ranked 77th at the time of writing, the 15th Premier League team on the list, with an offensive team rating of 1.7 and a defensive rating of 0.9 (the lower the defensive rating, the better, but the higher the attacking rating, the better).

EFC rank below the likes of the Ukrainian side, Dynamo Zagreb and Dutch side, FC Twente on the list, but above the likes of fellow Premier League outfit, Leeds United and Swiss side, Young Boys, a slight fall from grace compared to certain stages under Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure, when the club would rank near the top 10 in these rankings.

77th place in the world seems about right for the blues based on the current season, being outperformed by teams such as Brighton, who see themselves up in 20th and Scottish sides, Rangers and Celtic.

However, there are some teams that find themselves in odd positions in the table considering their form this season. Merseyside rivals sit level on points with Everton, only ahead through goal difference, but find themselves 3rd in the total global rankings for this season. An even more questionable standing is Premier League strugglers Leicester City sitting above Everton in 63rd despite having one of the worst starts to the season in the club’s history, winning 1 game and collecting just 4 points in their opening 9 fixtures.

EFC’s last fixture against Manchester United might have not gone exactly to plan, but it did see the end of a previous 7-game unbeaten run, a statistic that teams above them in the rankings don’t come near to boasting. Surely it is only a matter of time before the blues start moving their way up the rankings, especially with the return of Dominic Calvert-Lewin potentially boosting their attacking output.
