Recent reports are suggesting that Everton have bid ‘around €15 – €16 million to sign Senegalese striker, Boulaye Dia.

The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Italian club, Salernitana on loan from Villareal. As reported by Matthew Smith at CaughtOffside, Salernitana have an option to buy in their loan deal for Dia, sitting at around €12 million.

According to Tutto Salernitana, the Italian Serie A newcomers might decide to cash in on Dia already, activating his option to buy clause and selling him to Everton straight away for a significant profit. [via CaughtOffside]

Despite only signing for Salernitana on loan at the start of the season, he had already bagged four goals and grabbed two assists in his first 8 Serie A games for the club, looking set to smash his goal-scoring record in La Liga last season, only managing 5 goals in 25 La Liga games.

Dia is also very familiar with Everton’s summer signing, Idrissa Gana Gueye having made 17 appearances for the Senegalese national team, scoring 2 goals in the process. One of which helped his team to win World Cup qualification, scoring the only goal in the 2nd leg of the qualifier against Egypt, making the aggregate score 1-1 with Senegal going on to win the tie on penalties.

Although Dia’s obvious goal-scoring ability would be welcomed into Frank Lampard’s squad with open arms, considering his side has only managed to net 8 times in their opening 9 games so far in the Premier League, with Neal Maupay signing in the summer for a similar fee and England International, Dominic Calvert-Lewin returning from an injury picked up before the start of the season, it seems that money could be spent more wisely elsewhere.

Everton have been criticised multiple times this season for their lack of creativity in the final third of the pitch and despite signing Dwight McNeil in the summer window from relegated Burnley, a creative winger looks set to be one of Frank Lampard’s priorities to bring in during the January transfer window.
