Everton, West Ham and Leeds to battle it out for Senegal striker

|

Everton and West Ham are once again set to battle it out, this time for the signature of Senegal striker Boulaye Dia, who is currently on loan at Salernitana from Spanish outfit Villarreal.

In the summer the two clubs went toe-to-toe when chasing midfielder Amadou Onana. West Ham had agreed a fee for the Belgian and thought they had their man before Everton came in at the 11th hour and snatched the midfielder away from David Moyes, and according to SportWitness the two clubs could be battling against each other again for another players signature in the near future.

Boulaye Dia who represented his country at this year’s World Cup scored in Senegal’s 3-1 win over hosts Qatar and so far this season he has 6 goals in 14 appearances for Salernitana, something Everton’s current strikers (Neal Maupay 1 in 10, Dominic Calvert-Lewin 1 on 6) can only dream of.

Everton are in desperate need of goals and a striker that knows where the net is, and with Calvert-Lewin’s current injury record all the pressure is currently on Neal Maupay who hasn’t had the service.

With Dia currently on loan at Salernitana, it is rumoured that the Italian outfit will activate the buy-out clause believed to be in the region of 12M per Tutto Salernitana and then cash in on the World Cup star with Everton, Leeds and West Ham interested, but former England and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson doesn’t believe that the Senegal striker is the answer for Everton as they need a ready-made striker.

“Look, he is good enough but it may take him time. I don’t think Everton have time. They need to sign a striker who is ready to go. Someone who will make an immediate impact. They don’t need a player who will take six months to bed in.

“The need for a striker at Everton is glaringly obvious. They cannot rely on [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin and [Neil] Maupay to get them the goal, as good as they are.”

However, Robinson speaking to FootballInsider did add

“I liked what I saw from him at the World Cup. He is a good striker who knows where the back of the net is. He is also the right age.
