‘The One’ – Everton tipped to sign French Striker in January window

|

Everton have been told to attempt a move for Borussia Monchengladbach and French international striker Marcus Thuram in the January transfer window amid questions about their potential Premier League safety.

Thuram has performed very well since moving to Germany from French side Guingamp in 2019, scoring 10 goals and grabbing 8 assists in 31 games in his first Bundesliga campaign.

This season, he is looking very likely to outscore his highest-scoring season for Monchengladbach, scoring 10 goals in just 15 games as well as grabbing 3 assists already with more than half the season still to play.

His good form for his club led him to be called up for the French National Team for the Qatar World Cup.

France have a Semi-Final clash with Morocco this evening and will be looking to reach their 2nd World Cup final in a row.

Thuram has played 3 games at the World Cup so far, coming off the bench against Australia, Denmark and Poland, grabbing a late assist against the latter.

Speaking to Football Insider, former SPFL striker Tam McManus believes that Everton should make a move for the French striker in January:

“They are in desperate need of a striker, it has to be the priority in January,”

“Calvert-Lewin has been injured, I get that. But even when he has played he hasn’t looked like scoring. Maupay has done nothing since he got there.”

“They need someone who is going to come in and score 10 goals in the second half of the season.”

Everyone is talking about Thuram, could he be the one?”

“I would certainly try if I was Everton because they are in real danger of going down if they don’t find a goalscorer.”

Thuram’s contract expires in 2023, allowing him to leave on a free transfer in the summer. However, if Everton want to sign him in January they might have to pay upwards of £10 million for his services, with Newcastle United also interested.
