Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has taken to talkSPORT to publicly state that decisions surrounding managerial positions at the club have been “driven” by the fans, distancing himself from the responsibility.

It is not the first time that the Iranian billionaire has made the ill-advised decision to speak on the Murdoch-owned radio station, and his latest PR faux pas is yet another indication that he does not appreciate the feeling amongst the fanbase.

Moshiri said, “Some of the decisions we have taken are together with the fans. Older (former) managers who have left have been driven by the fans, not by me initially. I put my money where my mouth is and that is the most an owner can do.”

Indeed, the club’s majority shareholder may well have invested heavily since his 2016 takeover, but the managerial merry-go-round, relegation scraps and perpetual instability, alongside an expensively assembled squad of average players, has resulted in Evertonians questioning the ability of the board to successfully run the club.

With a fan-led protest scheduled for Saturday’s game against Southampton at Goodison Park, Moshiri bafflingly insists that his board are the right people to run the club.

The Everton owner continued, “I think protest is a democratic right for everyone but the biggest thing is support the team.

“I think they (senior board members) have been there for a long time, some are new appointments, but they are long-standing, dedicated, they are local and it is so important to keep a club in Liverpool with its roots in Liverpool

“They are the roots of the club.”

If you are dedicated and local Evertonian with strong roots in the city of Liverpool, perhaps you too could have a go at running the club, as seemingly there is no other required criteria to be a board member at Everton.
