Everton agree deal for youth international but fail to complete move

Everton had previously agreed a deal to sign Cork City’s David Harrington but the deal collapsed recently due to him sustaining a long-term injury. He now looks set to sign for League 1 outfit.

His good form led to Everton agreeing a deal to bring him to Goodison Park in the summer.

However, the 22-year-old suffered a serious shoulder injury and had to undergo surgery in November.

News on a completed deal fell silent for a few months, but it has recently been confirmed that the Irishman is now close to joining League 1 outfit, Fleetwood Town in January.

According to the Irish Examiner, Everton had agreed a 3-year-deal with Harrington worth 6-figures ‘up-front’, but he is now set for a move to League 1 to become Scott Brown’s number 1.

The toffees signed Billy Crellin from Fleetwood Town in the summer with the view of him playing back-up to Jordan Pickford in recent years, but so far he has only appeared for the under-23s side in PL2.

Although Pickford seems to have the starting spot in the Everton goal in his grasp for at least a few more seasons, the signing of a young goalkeeper such as David Harrington would surely be a step in the right direction for the toffees.
