Everton Midfielder Breaks Silence on Transfer Speculation

|

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has been the subject of intense speculation regarding his immediate future at Goodison Park this month, with both Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly interested in the Belgian international.

Rumours of an exit were compounded when the 21-year-old missed the first training session following the sacking of Frank Lampard, though his absence from Finch Farm was later explained as pre-planned as the Daker-born player was attending a wedding.

Despite this explanation, free-spending Chelsea were still reportedly eyeing up a move for the midfielder who only joined the Blues last summer in a £35 million deal with French side Lille.

However, reports suggested that Onana indicated his desire to remain at Everton and assist the club in it’s attempt to avoid relegation.

Indeed, the powerful midfielder has now taken to his social media with an emphatic message to the fan base following a month of transfer speculation.

On Wednesday evening, Onana made a post via his Instagram account stating, “Said what I said and did what I did. #Aintleavingtheship #AO8.”

Such a message will be welcome news to Everton fans who have endured a month of frustration, as the club ends the transfer window weaker than how we started it.

Without a single signing, Everton are reportedly exploring the possibility of recruiting players currently without contracts, and failed to bring in a replacement for the departing Anthony Gordon.

Onana’s performances have been one of the few positives for Everton of late, with the young player adapting to life in the Premier League, scoring his first goal for the club last month in a 2-1 defeat to Southampton.

His social media post may not curtail the rumour mill from linking him with countless clubs between now and the summer, but at least for now the lad is here to stay.

Amadou ain’t leaving the ship.
