Ex-Red Tips Former Everton Forward to Make Goodison Return

|

Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol believes that Belgium international Romelu Lukaku will make a return to Goodison Park once his loan at Italian giants Inter expires in the summer.

Lukaku has been rebounding between Stamford Bridge and the San Siro in recent years, moving from Inter to Chelsea for a second stint at the club in 2021, only to be loaned back to the Milanese club the following summer.

The 29-year-old spent 4 years at Goodison Park, moving to Merseyside initially on loan from Chelsea for the 2013/14 campaign, before making the move permanent the following year in a club record £28 million transfer for the Toffees.

68 Premier League goals in 141 appearances for the Blues made Lukaku one of the most prolific centre forwards in the division, before the Belgian international joined Manchester United in the summer of 2017 for a reported fee of around £75 million.

However, Steve Nicol insists that new Blues boss Sean Dyche could approach Chelsea in the summer to bring the ex-Everton man back to Goodison Park.

Nicol stated, “Again, you are looking at an AC Milan or Inter Milan right now.

With the wages he is on, maybe that’s something they don’t want, either.

“A bit like Tielemans, then I’m not sure any of the big boys get him.

He might end up where he was, what four or five years ago, with an Everton.

“That’s what’s going to happen with Lukaku.”

Everton are in dire need of a goal scorer and the club failed to support Sean Dyche in the January transfer market, so no doubt a player of Romelu Lukaku’s prowess would be welcomed by the new Toffees boss, but whether Everton would be able to tempt him back is another matter entirely.

The striker has already had 2 separate stints at Chelsea and Inter, so perhaps he could make a return to Goodison Park one day.
