Everton have bid rejected for teenage striker playing in Brazil

|

Everton have had a bid rejected for 19-year-old Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo who has been on fire of late for his club, Santos in the Brazilian Serie A, according to recent reports.

The toffees are due to announce the appointment of former Burnley manager Sean Dyche as their new manager after sacking Frank Lampard on Monday evening.

With the sale of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United being confirmed today, Everton now have just over 48 hours to find some much-needed reinforcements to bolster their squad ahead of the second half of the Premier League season, in which Everton must perform much better than they currently are.

Attackers such as Viktor Gyokeres have been linked with a move to Goodison Park lately. However, Everton seem to have their eyes on a potential target in South America.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Everton have had a bid rejected by Brazilian side Santos for their 19-year-old striker Marcos Leonardo as “there is no immediate reason to sell” for the club.

Leonardo operates as a striker for the most part but can also operate behind the striker if needed.

He has scored an impressive 34 goals in 124 games in all competitions for Santos so far, quite remarkable stats considering he is still a teenager.

The article does not state a specific transfer fee that Everton may have put forward, but it will likely be around £5 million considering Leonardo’s age.

If Santos are not currently willing to sell, however, Everton may be better off focusing their time and funds on other targets seeing as they have so little time in the window to complete some signings.
