“I didn’t mean to disrespect anyone” – Anthony Gordon opens up on his move to Newcastle United from Everton

|

Anthony Gordon has opened up on his move away from Goodison Park for the first time since joining Newcastle United this afternoon, and some of his comments seem quite interesting.

Everton are expected to announce the appointment of Sean Dyche as their new manager after the sacking of Frank Lampard earlier in the week due to his poor run of form in the Premier League of late.

Despite needing reinforcements in their squad desperately, the toffees have been very inactive in the transfer window. But that is likely to change shortly after the confirmation of the appointment of Sean Dyche.

However, Everton have confirmed the sale of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United before confirming Dyche’s appointment and the 21-year-old has opened up on his move to the North East.

In an interview with Newcastle United on YouTube, Gordon stated:

“It was extremely difficult (to leave Everton), it’s been a really tough week for me”

“Ive been at Everton my whole career so far so it’s been difficult. But this was an oppertunity that I couldn’t miss out on”

“I didn’t mean to disrespect or insult anyone at Everton and i’m hoping that they know that”

“Hopefully they can reinvest the money now”

Gordon reportedly did not want to travel with the Everton squad to their away fixture against West Ham [via The Athletic], leading to Frank Lampard keeping the Englishman on the bench throughout the whole of the game despite his side being 2-0 behind for much of the second half.

Everton have, somewhat remarkably, gained £45 million from the sale despite the winger being in such good form. But now they must focus on bringing in some reinforcements before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
