In a recent interview with William Hill, former Everton striker and former interim manager, Duncan Ferguson has confirmed that Everton had the chance to sign Erling Haaland earlier in his career, but decided against it.

Haaland started his youth career at a very early age, playing in Norway with Bryne FC before moving to Molde at the age of 16.

His performances for Molde under then-manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, were nothing short of exceptional, earning him a move to Austria with RB Salzburg. Although his performances in Sweden were fantastic, he exceeded all expectations in Austria.

The striker would score 16 goals in 14 league games for the Austrian champions and would also score a record-breaking 10 goals in 8 matches in the Champions League, whilst still being a teenager.

Haaland would then go on to break countless more records with Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City, but former Everton striker, Duncan Ferguson has confirmed that the toffees had the chance to sign the Norwegian even before he would leave for RB Salzburg but would decide against it.

In an interview with WilliamHill, Ferguson stated:

“He (Erling Haaland) was in at Everton, because his dad (Alf -Inge Haaland) had brought him in.”

“… And they never signed him”

“He was about 15-16. The team he was at (Molde FC) wanted a couple of million quid and Everton wouldn’t buy him.”

Everton have made a fair few mistakes with transfers in the past, but surely this has to top them.

There is obviously no guarantee that Haaland would have had as successful a career as he has had to date, but there is no doubt that he would have been a fantastic player for the blues and have made them a handsome profit if they had have completed a deal.
