Everton could be without 27-year-old against Leicester, player is an injury doubt

|

Everton could be without Bernard against Leicester City on Sunday as the 27-year-old hasn’t fully recovered from a knee injury. Bernard has been out of action since late-October and may not be fit to face the Foxes over the weekend.

The Brazilian international has made nine appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals. His last outing in an Everton shirt came against Brighton & Hove Albion (October 26) – the Toffees lost 3-2 at the Amex Stadium.

He picked up his grade 2 medial ligament injury inside of half an hour and was assessed by a knee consultant before undergoing rehabilitation. Bernard is nearing a return, but Sunday’s clash may have come too soon.

The forward has also missed Everton’s last three Premier League games – 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur (November 3), 2-1 win over Southampton (November 9) and 2-0 defeat to Norwich City (November 23).

Marco Silva has turned to Theo Walcott and Alex Iwobi in Bernard’s absence, but the pair haven’t managed a goal or assist between them since his injury. Nevertheless, Everton may have to go another gameweek without their Brazilian playmaker.
