Everton could be without 25-year-old ahead of Brighton clash, player has ‘missed training’

|

Everton could be without Yerry Mina for Saturday’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion as the 25-year-old ‘missed training’ on Wednesday. Mina has been suffering from a knee injury which caused him to be substituted against West Ham last weekend and may not be fit to face the Seagulls in the coming days.

It’s a blow for Marco Silva as Everton aren’t blessed with much depth at centre-back. Phil Jagielka & Ashley Williams were released over the summer without a replacement being signed and it’s left the Toffees short on cover. The January transfer window will provide Everton with an opportunity to bolster their defence, but Silva will have to find a temporary solution until then.

Mason Holgate replaced Mina in the 2-0 win over West Ham and may start alongside Michael Keane against Brighton. Apart from the inexperienced Lewis Gibson & Morgan Feeney in the u23s, Silva doesn’t have another viable option at centre-back other than using a first-team player in a makeshift role.

There’s still time for Mina to recover before Everton lock horns with Brighton, but the latest update isn’t good news.
