Everton “Above All” in Pursuit of Portuguese Forward

|

Everton are reportedly “above all” in their pursuit of Udinese striker Beto, as Frank Lampard’s search for attacking reinforcements continues.

The 24-year-old moved to Serie A in the summer of 2021 from Portuguese outfit Portimonense, initially on loan before making the move permanent the following year. With 11 goals in 29 games during his debut campaign in Italy, Beto boasts an impressive return in front of goal.

Indeed, his fine form has continued so far this campaign, with 7 goals in 19 appearances for Le Zebrette, attracting interest from Serie A rivals Fiorentina, as well as the Toffees.

The 6ft 4in centre-forward could set Everton back around £26 million, and could be the target man that the Blues have been crying out for all season. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling for fitness for much of the year so far, the England international has been off the boil for some time, though in fairness he has been feeding off scraps.

Likewise with the uninspiring Neal Maupay, who arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer for a fee of around £15 million, with the Frenchman struggling to settle at Goodison Park. Everton need another forward who can operate comfortably as a lone striker, and Beto could offer Lampard that option, as an alternative to DCL.

However, with a distinct lack of creativity in Everton’s midfield, a goalscoring midfielder who can contribute regular assists is a must this month, with the likes of Anthony Gordon and Dwight McNeil performing well below their expectations.

The addition of Beto to Everton’s forward line would certainly provide the Toffees with a young and dynamic outlet upfront, with the Lisbon-born attacker’s robust style of play precisely what Lampard’s side currently lack – a player who can hold the ball up.

If it is true that the Blues lead the race for the forward, it will be interesting to see how this one develops, but the £26 million price tag seems like it could put the Udinese man out of Everton’s reach.
