Brands must see fresh links for want-away Everton ace as potential to land next Deschamps – opinion

Idrissa Gana Gueye’s disappointment at his proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain falling through is no secret, and now the want-away Senegal international is a reported target for Olympique Lyonnais, according to BuzzSport.

They claim that he has been identified as a potential alternative to Hector Herrera, as it could be difficult to convince the Mexican that the Olympic Stadium should be his next home.

The 28-year-old is still Lyon Chairman Jean-Michael Aulas’ primary candidate with his contract with FC Porto coming to an end, yet he will not force a move for Gueye even if they cannot entice the 70-cap international.

For our part, though, their interest in Marco Silva’s general should be seen as a blessing in disguise as it could pave the way for Marcel Brands to arrange another move for Lucas Tousart.

We reportedly approached the 21-year-old in the winter market, unfortunately without luck as he rejected the proposal, but the French prospect could be in our sights again in the summer.

Tousart only stated that his desires were to remain in Ligue 1 until the end of the season when he turned the Toffees down in January, and a direct swap could be the easiest move to negotiate if he is already seen as an alternative to Gueye.

The 6-foot ace has also been compared to France legend Didier Deschamps and Chelsea superstar N’Golo Kante in the past, and still has bags of potential. He rarely gets dispossessed, either, with the ball snatched away from the France U21 captain just 15 times in 29 games this season.

His development is certainly one to keep an eye on if Gueye continues to seek a move to France.
