Over the weekend it was being reported that Marco Silva and Everton had identified Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw as our preferred target to replace Leighton Baines.

Shaw clearly has talent and he showed that in abundance having progressed through Southampton Academy set up and into their first-team. His performances earned him a switch to Manchester United for a reported £27million and went on to earn seven caps in total for England as well.

Injuries have blighted his time at Old Trafford however, and his early promise soon slipped away as Manchester United will not tolerate youngsters making mistakes like other clubs will because of the overhyped level of expectations following Sir Alex Ferguson’s time at the club.

Shaw is now 23-years-old and having made his debut back in January 2012, he’s only just got 119 starting appearances to his name across all competitions, so clearly he should be looking to move on, get game time, and start reaching the early potential many thought he had.

He’s decided not to and seems to want to sit out his contract at his current club even though he’s not in Jose Mourinho’s plan it seems.

It’s fair to say, news of the rejection has gone over well with the fanbase. I’m in the camp that he’d be a great signing IF we could get that early promise back.
