Everton suffered a gut-wrenching defeat against arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday, where Divock Origi scored the only goal of the game in the dying moments after a big error from Jordan Pickford.

The defeat should not have knocked the Toffee’s confidence though as it was only their second loss in eight Premier League matches, with the prior defeat in that run coming against Manchester United.

Marco Silva’s appointment in the summer has certainly led to a rejuvenation of the Toffees and the Portuguese manager reflected on his side’s performance against Liverpool after the game, praising his team and stating they deserved more.

That led to reactions from a number of Everton supporters, the majority of whom agreed with Silva’s assessment and praised the former Watford boss for the stellar job he has done with the club so far this season.

We have gathered some of the reactions below.

  • The truth of the matter is that Sam Allardyce helped to sort out the mess of last season, taking us up from 13th to 8th in the league. His style was very pragmatic. There are good signs already that Marco Silva will take us onwards and upwards. The style is more attractive and the results are on their way. It was just a mixture of fluke and goalkeeping error that led to our defeat in the derby, but Jordan Pickford is only human. He is a great keeper.
