Everton confirmed yesterday that Davy Klaassen had left the club for German Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.
Signed only last summer, we were expecting the midfielder’s career to really kick on for us after an impressive spell with Ajax.
As is often the case with players from the Dutch league, though, he proved not good enough and more often than not games really passed him by without him having an impact.
Certainly, he could have perhaps become a good player for us with some hard work but it probably is for the best that he has moved on.
The Verdict
A missed opportunity? Perhaps but I don’t think we’ll be that worried by him leaving.
Any player that moves on after a significant arrival without an impact represents a missed chance but there probably wasn’t much point in him staying on and taking up wages.
It remains to be seen if we buy a replacement.
