It’s all gone wrong for Yannick Bolasie at Sporting.

The 30-year-old was already struggling for appearances in 2020 and learned he wouldn’t be joining the club permanently this summer, but it now appears he may have been frozen out of the first-team after failing to make the matchday squad for the second time in March.

Bolasie was left out of Sporting’s 3-1 defeat to Famalicao on March 3 and their 2-0 win over Desportivo Alves five days later. The DR Congo international has made one Primeira Liga appearance since January 17 and finds himself behind Jovane Cabral and Gonzalo Plata in the pecking order.

Since joining Sporting on loan in September, Bolasie has gone on to make 25 appearances in all competitions. The 30-year-old has scored only two goals, the last of which came in December 2019. He’s racked up a more impressive five assists this season but has created only one goal in three months.

Bolasie has made nine chances, completed 73.9% of his 222 passes, won 29 aerial duels (57%), had 16 successful dribbles (50%), taken 25 shots with 20% hitting the target and making 10 tackles. He’s not set the José Alvalade Stadium alight which may explain his omission by Silas, but Everton don’t want him back at Goodison Park either.

The out-of-favour winger hasn’t made an appearance for the Blues since May 2018, so he doesn’t have a future on Merseyside. Bolasie has spent the last 18 months on loan at Aston Villa, RSC Anderlecht and Sporting but has been unable to earn himself a permanent deal with any club.

His deal at Everton expires in 2021, so the Toffees will be keen to cash in over the summer rather than risk losing Bolasie for nothing next year.
