According to Il Mattino, Everton are the most likely destination for Hirving Lozano. The 24-year-old is expected to leave Napoli this summer after struggling for form and playing time in his debut season at the Stadio San Paolo, but there’s stiff competition for his signature – Atletico Madrid, West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Il Mattino still tip Everton to win the race for Lozano, likely due to Carlo Ancelotti’s links with the club. The €40million (£35.1m) forward made 16 appearances for the 60-year-old this season before being sacked, so he may be keen on renewing acquaintances. Ancelotti may be signing a player low on confidence, however, as Lozano has scored only three goals in 23 games for Napoli.

The Mexican international was a regular at the start of the campaign, but he’s racked up only 205 minutes of Serie A football since December 2019 – his last league goal for Napoli came in November too. Lozano has created 12 chances, completed 79% of his 205 passes, won seven aerial duels (44%), had 12 successful dribbles (63%), had 20 shots with 25% hitting the target and made eight tackles & interceptions, per WhoScored data.

Everton have Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean at their disposal in attack but are looking to replace Cenk Tosun so they have enough cover in case of injury. Il Mattino are confident that the Toffees will sign Lozano in the summer transfer window, but it remains to be seen if a deal gets over the line.

He’s likely to cost in excess of €40m and may request wages around €4.5m-a-year.
