It was a night to remember for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in more ways than one.

The 22-year-old striker was named Man of the Match following his two-goal performance for Everton that sees the Toffees progress to the next round of the League Cup.
As well as netting against Sheffield Wednesday, a club that Calvert-Lewin grew up minutes away from during his childhood, but the brace came during the youngster’s 100th appearance for Everton.
Yet despite this accolade, plenty of Everton fans on social media saw this career milestone as an opportunity to take a sly dig at Calvert-Lewin, who has been a frustrating figure for supporters for multiple seasons.
Here is what some Toffee fans had to say on Twitter…
Celebrating a 1 in 5 striker who will never be good enough to lead the line week in week out. So Everton that.

Scores against bang average championship side. I think he’s found his level!!

1 goal every 5 games. Everton that

Another showing of championship is his level

Some fans, though, were more constructed when it came to their criticism of Calvert-Lewin…
Has all the tools necessary: Heart, Desire, Passion, Athleticism, Strength, Speed…let’s hope this is the beginning of a purple patch (lasting about 10 years). If this man can develop his scoring touch, add some craft & guile…watch out! We need all the goals he can give us!

For a 22 year old centre forward playing in an inconsistent team under 4 different managers in the hardest league in the world. 20 goals from his first 100 games isn’t to bad. Calvert Lewin defo needs to improve an remains to be seen if he can do more. But he has something.

I agree parts of his game have improved and playing up top by yourself is a thankless task, does need to be more clinical in front of goal when chances come his way

Last night just proved to me he needs a year in the championship, scoring goals. He would absolutely have the time of his life at someone like Leeds, and everton would get the benefit in the long run.

Despite making 100 appearances for Everton, Calvert-Lewin has only managed 20 goals for the Merseyside club in all competitions as numbers from Transfermarkt show, with the attacker also registering 10 assists during his three seasons at the Premier League side.
