Following defeat this weekend to Spanish side Valencia in our final pre-season match of the summer, Everton fans have once again been expressing their concern at how leaky we are in defence.

Two goals for Everton in the match at Goodison Park still saw us defeated as we conceded three to the visitors and the manner of the goals, and the ease to which they were scored, was a huge source of concern for plenty with the new 2018/19 Premier League campaign kicking off next weekend.

The positives, of course, were some of the attacking moves on show, and Cenk Tosun’s strike in particular given the build-up to that, but with centre half talk being a hot topic over the summer, fans are certainly hoping that the departure of Ashley Williams to Stoke City the other day is a sign that we have targeted a clear improvement and he’ll be through the doors quickly this week.

Sort out the backline and many feel we could be in for a good season.
