‘Unbelievable’, ‘Excellent‘ – These Everton fans praise ‘unsung hero’ after latest club triumph

Some Everton supporters have been praising the work of our ‘unsung hero’ David Unsworth and his coaching team, after our Under 23s clinched the youth double by winning the Premier League Cup on Wednesday night.

The young Toffees had already won the Premier League 2 for the second time in three seasons, after ending the Division 1 campaign four points clear of last year’s winners Arsenal, having won twelve of their 22 games – drawing five, losing five.

Not one of the twelve sides competing in Division 1 this season managed to lose fewer games than our U23s, and Newcastle United were unable to add another blow to our belt in the PL Cup.

The Magpies travelled down to Goodison Park last night having eased past Leeds United in the previous round by beating the Whites 3-0 at Guiseley’s Nethermoor Park in April.

They proved to be a resolute unit to break down last night, too, but could not break down our back line – where the winning goal eventually came from.

U23s captain Morgan Feeney bagged what was only his second junior goal for the club, as per FlashScore, when he headed home Antony Evans’ 59th-minute free-kick, after Josh Bowler was deemed to have been fouled on the wing.

Bowler and Evans had looked lively from the off against the Magpies, who too started strongly and tested Joao Virginia with some early efforts.

Fraser Hornby started to get more involved in the action as the first-half rolled on, as well, but could not stretch his five-goal tally for the term.

He did not have to in the end, however, as Feeney’s header won the tie and the cup, marking a brilliant youth double for Unsworth and his crew, which in turn led to many plaudits online…
