Two Everton stars tipped for January exits

|

Everton will look to sell both Abdoulaye Doucoure and Yerry Mina during the January transfer window in order to ‘trim’ their wage bill, according to recent reports

Doucoure signed for Everton in the summer of 2020 for a reported fee of £20 million from relegated Watford.

He has had some bright spells since moving to Merseyside, but his move has been quite underwhelming as a whole, scoring only 5 goals in 78 appearances in blue.

Like Doucoure, Yerry Mina also joined the club for big money, singing from Barcelona for around £28 million in 2018.

He has shown glimpses of the player Everton had through they had signed, but his time at EFC was majorly plagued by injury, only making 94 appearances in his 4-and-a-half years at the club, not managing over 25 appearances in a single Premier League campaign.

Both players’ contracts are due to expire in the summer so Everton will be trying their hardest to shift them in January for a bit of cash.

In an interview with Football Insider, former Spurs and England No.1, Paul Robinson backed Everton to cash in on both players during the upcoming window:

“Doucoure has been a good player for Everton but given his age and the competition in that area, it might be time for him to move on.”

“[Amadou] Onana has been an excellent acquisition. He is only going to get better.”

“Frank needs to be given an opportunity to put his own stamp on the team and if that involves players leaving, Doucoure and Mina may make way.”

“If Doucoure and Mina offers are accepted, that would free up some room on the wage bill. That may allow Frank to bring in bodies that he wants.”

With attacking acquisitions a ‘must’ for Frank Lampard’s side in January, Doucoure and Mina may be some of the players chosen to make space for some new signings.

Given James Tarkowski and Conor Coady’s recent domination of the centre-half positions and Alex Iwobi, Idrissa Gana-Gueye and Amadou Onana being Lampard’s 1st choice midfielders, the two probably have little future left at Goodison Park.
