Toffees transfer setback will be music to the ears of potential Everton star – opinion

Everton are reportedly on the hunt to sign FC Porto’s Yacine Brahimi, but the Toffees are not alone with AC Milan stepping up their efforts, according to Calciomercato.

The San Siro outfit are understood to have scouted the 29-year-old again during his Liga NOS clash with Feirense, where they would have seen the winger fill in at striker as a second-half substitute.

Brahimi did not break the net against Filipe Martin’s side, although the soon-to-be free agent produced the most successful dribbles and second-most shots during his twenty minutes on the field.

With his contract set to expire in the summer, the Paris-born ace’s signature is hotly chased around Europe, and AC Milan see the 45-cap Algerian international as their number two target.

It is claimed by Calciomercato that the Italian outfit have prioritised OGC Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin, but see the Porto star as the top alternative should they lose Spanish sensation Suso.

Brahimi’s wage demands are said to be at the upper end of Sporting Director Ivan Gazidis’ limits, but he sees the potential commission-only deal as a good move so that they can permanently sign Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Meanwhile, our interest in Brahimi has been well documented, with Correio de Manha, via Sport Witness, suggesting that we have put a proposal to the winger already.

Milan’s growing interest may come as a setback, however it will be great news for Ademola Lookman.

Silva has sporadically used the winger, but the boss’ failure to convince Brahimi that Merseyside should be his next home would see that Lookman is not pushed further down the pecking order.

Instead, the Charlton product would be able to compete for the right-wing spot, and only then could he be become the Everton star his potential promises.
