According to Corriere dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United and Arsenal are ‘eyeing’ Cengiz Under this summer – a blow to Everton’s hopes of landing his signature.
The 22-year-old has been on Everton’s radar for some time, but their pursuit of Under has hit a stumbling block now PL rivals have entered the race for his signature.
Everton have Theo Walcott, Bernard, Richarlison and Alex Iwobi who can operate out wide, but Walcott could be sold after a disappointing campaign while Bernard was reportedly offered out to AS Roma earlier this season.
The Toffees have been linked with Wilfried Zaha, Memphis Depay, Jose Callejon, Rafa Silva, Jack Grealish, Everton Cebolinha Soares, Philippe Coutinho and Jesse Lingard, so they have alternatives to Under.
The £27m-rated winger has made 85 appearances in all competitions since joining Roma from Basaksehir, scoring 17 goals and making 12 assists. He’s impressed in previous years – 32 games, eight goals and two assists in 2017/18, 33 games, six goals and 10 assists in 2018/19 – but has looked ordinary this season.
Under has scored only three goals in 20 games, so it remains to be seen if he’d improve the Everton squad. Whether he’d get playing time over Marcus Rashford, Daniel James, Lingard and At Arsenal, he’d have Gabriel Martinelli for competition.
