With Premier League football set for a mid-season hiatus due to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, a supercomputer has reportedly predicted what the final league table will look like come the end of the 2022/23 campaign. The prediction indicates that Frank Lampard’s Blues will face another close shave with relegation, narrowly avoiding the drop with a seventeenth-place finish.

As reported in the Liverpool Echo, “The supercomputer takes into account all match results from the season played so far, projecting the remainder of the season based on both pre-season expectations and xG earned both for and against up to the World Cup break”

If correct, Everton are tipped to amass 35.9 points, marginally more than Bournemouth who are predicted to finish eighteenth with 35.4 points. Wolverhampton Wanderers are also Championship bound according to the prediction, with a nineteenth-placed finish on 34.9, while Nottingham Forest are tipped to finish rock bottom with a points total of 34.3.

Should the prediction come true, it would mean another nail-biting end to the campaign for Everton fans, with the club narrowly avoiding relegation by just four points last season, securing Premier League status on the penultimate game of the season against Crystal Palace. With the Toffees currently in seventeenth place on fourteen points, the Boxing Day visit of bottom of the league Wolverhampton Wanderers is already looking like a six-pointer for Frank Lampard’s Everton.
