Report: Promising striker could leave Everton, Technical Director is ‘following him closely’

|

Bassala Sambou could be on his way out of Everton this summer. The 21-year-old is out of contract in the coming weeks and doesn’t appear close to signing an extension at Goodison Park. Sambou has interest from Östersund whose Technical Director is keen on luring the striker to Sweden.

David Webb told Football Direkt: “We have not offered him any contract yet, but we follow the player carefully and if we can recruit him we think he can do it well with us. However, we are not the only club that follows him and wants him.”

Sambou has been prolific in the reserve team over the last 12 months, scoring and creating eleven goals in 22 Premier League 2 games for the u23s. He’s contributed 13 goals in all competitions. The German-born centre-forward joined Everton on a free transfer from Coventry City in 2016 and threatens to leave in a similar fashion three years on due to a lack of first-team football.

He’s failed to make a single appearance in the senior side and may feel he needs to move on for the sake of his career. Sambou has found himself behind the likes of Cenk Tosun, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order at Goodison Park and needs to join a club willing to give him a regular spot in their starting lineup.

Östersund are currently 10th in the Swedish Allsvenskan with 13 points from 10 games this season, having scored only 11 goals for their troubles. Their top scorer is Dino Islamovic with four goals from 10.
