Report: Left-back ‘set to snub’ Everton and PL rivals ‘in favour of’ returning to former club

According to 90min, Aaron Hickey is ‘set to snub’ Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea and Leeds United ‘in favour of’ returning to his former club Celtic.

The 17-year-old has broken into the first-team at Heart of Midlothian and looks to have a bright future, but 90min say he isn’t keen on moving to the Premier League just yet.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Hickey was a youth player at Hearts before he joined Celtic in 2017. The Scottish defender failed to make an appearance for the Hoops and returned to Hearts a year after leaving.

He’s gone on to make 34 appearances for the Jam Tarts, scoring one goal and making one assist. Hickey will turn 18 next month and is already featuring regularly in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic may have won the race for his signature, however, likely down to his past association with the club.

The Hoops sold Kieran Tierney to Arsenal last summer and may have found a long-term replacement in Hickey. It’s bad news for Everton, but the Toffees still have Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines at their disposal for next season.

Signing young talent to replace ageing deadwood is Marcel Brands’ transfer policy, but Carlo Ancelotti may have to turn his attentions elsewhere from Hickey.
