Report: Former Everton target signed to replace Ronaldo transfer listed at cut-price deal

Real Madrid attacker Mariano Diaz has reportedly been placed for sale by the La Liga giants just a year after re-joining Los Blancos.

This is according to Eldesmarque, who report that as well as Lucas Vazquez and Isco, Zinedine Zidane is keen to offload Diaz from Real Madrid’s books after failing to impress for the Spanish club since returning after an impressive spell at Lyon, a period that saw Everton linked with the Dominican attacker.

The reports back then came from CalcioMercato, who in the summer of 2018 claimed that the Toffees were interested in a €30m (£25.98m) move for Diaz, who in his sole season for Lyon was one of the club’s most productive players as stats from Transfermarkt show, with the 26-year-old striker scoring 18 goals in 34 Ligue 1 appearances for the French giants.

Though since that incredible 2017/18 season, Diaz’s career has faltered since returning to Madrid. Handed the number 7 shirt vacated by the recently departed Cristiano Ronaldo and the likes of Bleacher Report claiming that the attacker was to be the man to fill the shoes of the Portuguese superstar, life back in Spain just hasn’t worked out for the versatile attacker.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Diaz’s second-spell for Los Blancos has been underwhelming with the striker scoring just three goals since returning to Spain in La Liga, and with the attacker now up for sale, Everton would be wise to go back in for him.

With the report claiming that Madrid only want €15m (£12.99m) for Diaz, the Toffees could stand to save over £10m from when they were last interested in the 26-year-old striker, and with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean being lacklustre this season, the La Liga striker could be an ideal addition if goals don’t begin to pick up between now and the January transfer window.
