Report: Everton make decision on potential £13m signing

Everton were being linked with a move for Santiago Sosa earlier in May, but Liverpool Echo say the Toffees won’t make a move for the defensive-midfielder this summer. Sosa has made five appearances in all competitions since rising through the youth ranks to the Club Atlético River Plate first-team, the last of which came against Tigre in the Primera Division on April 7.

Everton are expected to sign at least one midfielder in the summer transfer window. Idrissa Gueye has been with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, Andre Gomes could potentially snub the Blues to join Tottenham, James McCarthy is tipped to leave due to a lack of playing time and Morgan Schneiderlin has an uncertain future.

Sosa isn’t likely to make an instant impact at Goodison Park, however, which could be why the Merseysiders are avoiding him this summer. The 20-year-old has represented Argentina at u20 level and appears to be rated highly at his club, but Everton won’t be rushed into procuring his signature. Marcel Brands might monitor his progress during the 2019/20 campaign.

Marco Silva may have to make a lot of his own funds through player sales this summer, so signing a player that won’t be in the first-team next season isn’t a priority.
